Equinox Message

The Promise of Cosmic Unity

September 2026

As the sun enters into the astrological sign of Libra, the Scales, in the northern hemisphere, and in the sign of Aries in the southern hemisphere, it is important to remind ourselves of the significance of this auspicious equinox time. Now, we will focus on Libra, which in the sacred alphabet of the Tarot, corresponds to Key 11, Justice, which is assigned the Hebrew letter Lamed (ל). As a noun, Lamed means "ox-goad", and as a verb, it means "to teach or instruct". The ox is Aleph, a, corresponding to Key 0, The Fool. This reveals a profound Qabalistic mystery: the ox-goad (Lamed, ל) is that which urges, prods, and guides the boundless cosmic power of The Fool into manifestation. Yet, this guiding force is not an external, coercive master. It is, as Paul Foster Case writes, "something within the Life-power... an inward capacity for self-direction" (PFC, The Tarot, p. 126).

The function assigned to Lamed is Work or Action, the literal meaning of the Sanskrit term Karma. Key 11 depicts the personification of Justice seated upon a throne, holding an upright steel sword in her right hand and golden balance scales in her left. This central figure is identified as Venus—symbolizing Venusian rulership over Libra—indicated by her green cape and yellow hair, which mirror the attributes of Key 3, The Empress. The influence of Saturn (♄)—which is exalted in the sign of Libra—is symbolically represented by the T-crosses on both the hilt of the uplifted sword and the collar of her dress, rendered in the Saturnian hue of indigo or blue-violet.

In the psychology of the Tarot, Venus represents creative imagination and the process of drawing deductive reasoning from experience. As Paul Foster Case explains, these subconscious deductions are the literal "seeds of Karma" and form "the basis of all our activities [and] From them we gain instruction and knowledge" (PFC, The Tarot, p. 126). While Venus governs the subconscious process of generating our mental imagery, Saturn corresponds to Key 21, The World and represents the concrete, limitation, and definitive power of form or structure. True Karma—signifying Work or Action—is therefore the process where Saturn concentrates and molds our subconscious mental imagery and patterns, crystallizing them into a harmoniously balanced physical reality. The figure depicted as Justice is also the woman in Key 8, Strength, who tames the lion. Both Key 8 and Key 11 represent different aspects of the same single power—the creative imagination of the Empress. Strength is the control of the "serpent-power" or Universal Life-Power through mental suggestion and subconscious association. Justice is that very same power poised and active in the physical world, balanced through elimination and direct action. Thus, one cannot have the poised equilibrium of Justice without the spiritual courage and subconscious mastery of Strength.

In a world increasingly darkened by shadows of human injustice, hostility, and division, this equinox offers a message of profound hope. It calls us to active, poised participation in the cosmic balance. Key 11, Justice is Work or Action as the expression of the One Will—the absolute law of cause and effect working tirelessly behind the veil of chaotic appearances.

When we align our personal consciousness with this All-encompassing reality, we surrender the illusion of separate, struggling wills and awaken to the Unity underlying all manifestation. We realize that the adversarial forces of the world are ultimately educational, serving to goad the human race onward in its search for truth. The scales of Justice may swing, but they are held by an undeviating Cosmic Law, ensuring that Harmony, Love, and Light will have the final, victorious word.

As we travel this Path of Return together, with ever-revealing Unity, may L.V.X., Light, be extended upon you.
